Alpana Shrestha is a graduate of Donghua University in Shanghai and a fluent speaker of English, Mandarin and Nepali. She started her textile journalism career after joining Textile Asia monthly in 1998. She has covered major international textile related conferences and trade shows in for almost two decades, like ITMA Europe, ITMA Asia, ATME, Dornbirn Manmade Fibre Congress, Intertextile, Premiere Vision Asia, Fashion Acess and Cashmere World, Prime Source, Hong Kong Fashion Week, Centrestage, Kingpins, BoDW, etc.
Prior to that, she worked in different sectors of the textile industry for over a decade gaining valuable experience and insight into the industry in the region. A significant part of that representing European textile machinery manufacturers in the China market.
She was also a production supervisor and later spent time as a research officer and writer preparing feasibility studies for the textile sector in Nepal.
In addition she is a consultant for Namuna College of Fashion Technology (NCFT) in Kathmandu, giving guest lectures on her fields of interest.
Most recently she worked as an international consultant to the Pashmina Enhancement and Trade Support (PETS) Project, Nepal, by the International Trade Centre, Geneva, and the Government of Nepal and implemented by the Nepal Pashmina Industries Association (NPIA).
Due to her educational and working experience Ms Shrestha has traveled extensively and has indepth knowledge of the international textile trade, technology and sourcing.
Currently as a freelance textile and media consultant active both in Hong Kong and Kathmandu, she is promoting Nepali exhibitor participation in APLF’s Fashion Access and Cashmere World 2018.
